Faith rank code and permissions

Post by Kallias » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:03 pm

I know at the Inner Circle faith rank you're able to quest people. If your PC's FM has given you permission and put trust in you to do appropriate quests, would the IMMs like an application to go along with this so they also know (or able to deny a PC) who is giving out quests?

My initial inclination was that it's in the code to, and IC the people in the inner circle have been given IC permission to...so it's fair game. I've been told otherwise that it is not allowed without the staff approving the application before hand.

Just looking for an official answer, so current and future inner circle members don't go about unknowingly breaking the rules others can link to this thread for precedence in the matter.

I understand that regardless if it's code or not, if the FM doesn't tell you you're able to do it - you shouldn't.

Thanks!

Shouldn't being promoted to that rank in the first place show that the FM does have the trust in that character to deal out quests and handle faith affairs? I mean why give them the power if they aren't going to use it?

I agree. But some FM's may want to micromanage as part of their RP, and still show their faithful they appreciate their patronage.

I blindly assumed the less applications for the IMMs, the better. But I want to follow proper SOP.

Only fm's and imms could make you inner circle, usually when that is done, it is done with the knowledge that you could possibly set a player character to quested (or quest complete status). But it does not mean you have the authority to say that the character is ready to be faithed, because that is up to the fm or imm. If there is no active fm or imm though, the issue could be solved through a prayer posting or an application. I'd recommend prayer first and then waiting a bit before doing an app.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

That's kind of what I figured. I know just because the code let's you do it, doesn't mean you should...so I wanted to double check.

Thanks.

To confirm and clarify the above:

If a Faith Manager is absent or otherwise unavailable/unable, then Inner Circle members may quest hopefuls. This was our intention when permissions were set. Ideally, this would happen with with the FM's consent, but provided that they are advised of the action it shouldn't be an issue. (Since most Inner Circle will have been selected by the FM anyway)

As noted, only an FM or an Immortal can turn a quested hopeful into an initiate.

So:

If the FM is absent and there are no Inner Circle members able to quest a hopeful
- the hopeful should send in an application requesting Imm assistance with the questing

If a hopeful has been quested by Inner Circle (or FM) and there is currently no FM able to initiate the quested character
- either the person who gave the quest or the quested player should send in an application requesting Imm assistance with the initiating.

The only health warning I'd put on this process is that you take due care when approached by a hopeful to check all the circumstances. The delay in faithing might not be due only to FM absence for example.
...never send to know for whom the bell tolls,
it tolls for thee.
