Food Decay

Post by Nysan » Tue Jul 06, 2010 11:46 am

For a while now, I have wondered how food decay is figured out for certain areas. Is it just decided by whatever builder made the area or is there an overall rule somewhere?

I have tried to guess, based on what the food is, but nothing seems consistant. Fish stuff over here lasts forever while fish stuff over there decays within a day. Had similiar results with plant and fruit type foods. I've marked it up, in-game, as certain cooks do not prepare and store their food as well as other places.

Still curious if it is an area code decision or not and if it is... can certain places be changed? For example, I would think a cook in Umbree's temple would know how to make a crab last, yet everything he sells decays after a day.

You do not need to change the world, merely leave it a little better than how you found it.

It looks like this is set by the builder in area code, via a Timer setting. Many builders set their foods to never expire, but some set very short durations on some foods. The builder in Umberlee's temple seems to have put some thought into it, as different items there have different Timer values, so I'm dubious anyone would want to overrule that effort, though you could certainly suggest changes to them personally. The warm buttered crab legs last far less time than the stuffed claws, most likely to reflect that they only stay warm for a short time.

It's for each individual food item itself. In one line the nourishment value, decay timer, and raw or cooked are all set by numbers.

Thanks for the quick replies. Maybe I will look over the builder lessons sometime. Still stuck in the old mindset, not used to the builder forum being public. Might be a nice change from reviewing helpfiles while mining.
