Re: More helpfile errors
This is a very recent change, a consequence of the recent race file changes. I believe it comes with many other changes, including it becoming more difficult to advance in levels as a "powerful" race with many appreciable innate abilities.
Re: More helpfile errors
----------------------
Bash
====
Syntax: bash [target]
Bash has the potential to damage and temporarily daze yourself and/or your
opponent for approximately two rounds. While dazed, one cannot heal, flee,
or perform other extraneous combat actions (i.e., that individual will be
able to dodge/parry/attack but nothing else). These same consequences are
inflicted on your opponent if it is a player character, otherwise the skill
only inflicts damage. A shield is required for the bash skill to work unless
mounted in which case the trample feat is required.
Note that bash has a drastically reduced chance of hitting if the basher is
not one of the primary combatants (i.e. is not tanking).
{BO}* Tower shields and bucklers can not be used to bash
(A) Fighter Skills (B) Paladin Skills
(C) Ranger skills (D) Shields
(E) Trample Feat
-----------------------
Taking a guess the {BO} in the final line should be a colour code.

Re: More helpfile errors
Yup, good catch! Thanks, that was an easy fix.
Re: More helpfile errors
Not an error, but a suggestion... In the resistance helpfile, immune should be listed under descriptors, as it shows under certain effects like an 'energy immunity' spell.
-------------------
Resistance
==========
Syntax: resistance
This command displays your characters resistances to various
types of attack. Different spells and different equipment can
affect your resistances. Mobiles also have resistances.
The resistance descriptors are as follows: non-existent, abysmal, poor,
adequate, average, above average, good, very good, great, exceptional,
heroic, unparalleled, legendary
bashing slashing piercing magic bashing
magic slashing magic piercing fire cold
electricity acid magical energy divine energy
* This command will also display any spell resistance you possess.
(A) Affected by (B) Magic
(C) Spell Resistance

Re: More helpfile errors
Thanks for the suggestion! Added that to the list, also "normal", sonic energy, and an explanation of the echoes generated when resistances and damage reductions make an attack ineffective.
Re: More helpfile errors
Two-weapon Fighting Feat
========================
Syntax: Automatic
Prerequisites: Dual Wield skill
You've established yourself as a skilled combatant while choosing to wield a
weapon in each hand. Once this feat is taken, the penalty to hit with your
primary hand is moderately reduced, while the penalty to hit with your off
hand is significantly reduced.
(A) Dual Wield Skill (B) Improved Two-weapon Fighting Feat
(C) Two-weapon Defence Feat
When I tried to train this feat, I got an echo from the MOB that said:
You must be at least a journeyman in 'dual wield' before you can learn 'two-weapon fighting' for 'dual wield'
Could this be added to the help file perhaps? Maybe in Prerequisites?

Re: More helpfile errors
A fine suggestion, Lysha, done! Sorry that it wasn't included in the first pass, there was a crush to try to get the helpfiles in for the new feats and they are likely all missing some details. Going through them all with a fine-toothed comb is on the to-do list...but not near the top!
Made a similar tweak to improved two-weapon fighting helpfile.

Re: More helpfile errors
Could I please request having the newly-implemented level adjustment explained in a helpfile? I think it would be appropriate to give it its own seperate helpfile to explain how and why it has been implemented. After that, how about some kind of table showing which races get what level caps and/or a mention of the level cap in each race's helpfile? In the announcement, it was mentioned that centaurs would be capped at level 45, but the rest is kind of a mystery.

Re: More helpfile errors
Perhaps considering that change to this post viewtopic.php?f=73&t=8242 ?
ECL could be an addition to the current races allowed tables no?

Re: More helpfile errors
I think that would be a fine way to handle it, Brar!
I put together a helpfile on the more general topic of ECL, however: see HELP ECL (for short). Zashier, (or anyone else,) please let me know if that fails to address any questions you or others may have.

Dispel Magic
============
Abjuration
Range: Touch or Close
Target: Defensive
Syntax: cast 'dispel magic' <target>
This spell dispels magical affects on a character, whether they be
beneficial or baneful. If multiple effects are on a single target,
only a limited number of effets are cancelled with a single casting of
the spell.
A similar spell, Break Enchantment, will remove only the harmful effects
affecting a character

Crippling Strike Feat
=====================
A thief with this ability can sneak attack opponents with such precision that
their blows weaken and hamper them. An opponent damaged by such a sneak
attack also temporarily looses some of their strength.
* Ability points lost to crippling strikes return slowly on their own at over
the course of a couple of days.
* This feat is only available to members of the thieves' guild.

Re: More helpfile errors
On that note, the "arterial strike" helpfile doesn't mention anything about the +arterial strike combatmode option.

Re: More helpfile errors
Thanks Grenwyn - it was pretty opaque why the combatmode was even offered, based on the helpfile. Should be clearer now!
Re: More helpfile errors
Methinks this reflects a previous version of the combat engine. =)Damage Messages
===============
When one character attacks another, the severity of the damage is shown
in the verb used in the damage message. Here are all the damage verbs
listed from least damage to most damage:
barely scratch scratch graze
bruise hit injure
wound maul thrash
decimate devastate maim
MUTILATE DISEMBOWEL EVISCERATE
MASSACRE OBLITERATE ANNIHILATE
The message shown will reflect the percentage of hitpoints damage that
you cause to the hitpoints your victim has left.

Re: More helpfile errors
In actuality I've successfully trained this feat with several races besides dwarves, orcs, and half-orcs. This is either a helpfile error or a bug with the feat--not sure which.
Poison Resist Feat
==================
Over the years, some among your people carefully expose themselves to
poisons in controlled dosages in order to build up immunity to their
effects. A few are thereby weakened, but the strong adjust.
This feat increases your resistance to poison.
This feat is only available to dwarves, orcs and half-orcs. You can only
take this feat as your first feat while below level 4.

Re: More helpfile errors
Yeah, Helpfile is just outdated. "Average" did not exist when it was created. It was an incarnation that occurred afterwards.
