Not really a game suggestion, more a pet project.
With the closing of Mystra's Gifts and it's Keep counterpart, there has been a void in certain components in-game. I have been hunting, traveling, and chatting up the town in-game trying to get a feel for what is basically unavaliable without a component vendor licence. Some were mentioned in the thread about adding new recipes to Alchemy, others are new.
Below is the list I have come up with. If something on the list can be found/created/bought in-game, do not give details. A simple "Yes, that can be found in-game" will suffice. Trying to figure out what is really unattainable, not build a guide for hard-to-finds.
If you have an addition for the list, post it. I'll edit the list if anything I missed is mentioned. Again, no IC info. This post is to get a clear picture of missing components, not give directions. Thanks!

You do not need to change the world, merely leave it a little better than how you found it.

There is at least one place lodestones may be obtained in game.
There is at least one place expensive diamonds may be obtained in game.

Re: Unattainable Components
you sure about the expensive diamonds? I have searched high and low and asked plenty of folk. None have been able to locate even with spells!
Re: Unattainable Components
Short of buying them myself, I've seen them for sale. I made sure to check while I made this post.
Edit: I would buy one to make sure it's not out of stock, but expensive diamonds live up to their name in their price.

Edited out lodestones and diamonds. Thanks for the insight, Lysha.
Keep looking, Atraos. I'm sure you'll find it!

Re: Unattainable Components
Been asked about this, so I'll explain it here. For this project I am not counting "component vendor licience" attained components because every component can be bought with these licences, but not everyone has access to the benefit. So, please be sure not to count these shops if you believe a component is found in-game.Nysan wrote:unavaliable without a component vendor licence
What they are... Various shops around the realms sell components, but anyone that tries to buy from these shops get a "I have not been told I can sell to you" or similar echo. PCs need to have a component vendor licience to buy from these shops. Read the player housing/shop helpfiles regarding component shops for better detail.
Enjoy and thanks for the help folks!

Re: Unattainable Components
Personally confirmed that both lodestones and expensive diamonds can be found in-game.
Judging by the lack of new posts, I will consider the current list accurate: ruby dust and black onyx gems. It is smaller than I would expected, which is very nice to know.
Even though lodestones are in-game, I still believe lodestones and black onyx gems would be a great additions to Alchemy. Negative shards are under-represented in Transmutation and these two seem fitting sources for recipes involving negative shards.
At a loss for ideas to get ruby dust back into the game, outside of a store's inventory. Such an expensive and rare component (if I am remembering Mystra's Gift prices right) would not fit well into anything like Alchemy or metal grinder codes.

Re: Unattainable Components
Unless the you need a mob to grind it for you, giving you the ruby dust. You cant just smash a ruby up and get the right kind of dust, you would get gem powder. So maybe the priests of Gond are so skilled at it that for an expensive fee they will grind rubies properly for you? Sort of like Maldo and soot... but WAY more expensive.
