Telnet Horizontal Buffer
Telnet Horizontal Buffer
Hello everyone,
I seem to be having an issue with telnet in regards to what I would dub as a "horizontal line buffer" problem. Furthermore, it appears to mainly only affect helpfiles. Here is a link to a screenshot of what I am experiencing:

It seems to stagger the lines in the paragraphs and they move across the screen. I assume it's a telnet issue and not FK, but none of my preferences seem to affect it. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks
Sean

Re: Telnet Horizontal Buffer
Most telnet clients tend to mess up lines larger than 80.
What telnet client do you use?

I'm just on the default command prompt under Windows XP.

Your client is ignoring the '\r' command to do a carriage return. Try using 'putty' instead:

It's just a straight telnet client too, but one that is a little better than the Windows one.

Hmm, I take it I have no way of changing command prompty then?
I work for the US Government so downloading Putty might be an issue. I'll see what I can do.

Re: Telnet Horizontal Buffer
You can always try a bigger horizontal buffer but no promise it will work

I downloaded Putty, but I'm still having the same issue. Although, now I can see my typing!

Re: Telnet Horizontal Buffer
On a side note, if anyone is using the default windows telnet client and can't see what they're typing, there's a way to fix that. The telnet program should show something called the escape character when the program is started. Default (at least on my machine) is CTRL+]. Use that key combo once you're logged in to the game and it will bring you back out to the telnet prompt (you ARE still logged into the game). Once there, type 'set localecho' and then hit enter a couple times. You'll jump back to the game and you'll be able to see what you're typing.

Oh damn, I wish I would have known that!
I actually got Zmud to work at work... I was using port 4000 (we only used port 4000 for what seemed forever) when apparently it was port 22/23. I felt kinda dumb after that. =P

Re: Telnet Horizontal Buffer
Hmmm! Could you type CONFIG and let me (or everyone) know what you get back as your settings there?
Specifically, if +BLANK isn't set, try setting that to on?
Also, I assume you are not using VT100?
This happens with all helpfiles, or only some?
This makes clear to me that we need to update the content of HELP CONFIG!

Re: Telnet Horizontal Buffer
Raona,
I managed to get Zmud to work at work, so I no longer have to use telnet. But I hopped back onto it to test that change for you.
With +blank or -blank, I still got the same issue. Specifically, I have +blank, -brief, +combine, -nointro, +prompt, and -telnetga. I am using VT100. As Mask said, I'd agree with him that it seems to be a client issue and not an FK issue.
And it is all helpfiles.

Re: Telnet Horizontal Buffer
Hmm. Thanks for checking that, Athon!
I gave the Windows telnet client a go myself...and my conclusion is just...don't. It's got so many issues! I could see what you describe, and could not see an option within the client that could fix the problem...though I did try just about everything.
Has anyone else observed this behaviour with any other client? (If so, it might be worth looking into further.)
