Goblin Speech

Post by Atraos » Thu Jul 22, 2010 1:13 pm

I have been experimenting with Goblin speech and just wandered what everyones thoughts around how a Goblin should speak are? I personally dont see them speaking the same as Orcs, but perhaps i am wrong.

If we take the below as an example how would people construct the following in a Goblin tongue?

"My name is Breggle, I am not here to cause trouble. Please do not hurt me."

I find myself being drawn toward sounding like a certain ring searching hobbit hunting fellow.

"Me's name is Breggle, I's not be here to be causings no troubles, You's don't need to be hurtings me"

That would be my example.

I've always played a goblin similarly, I've got to admit. My general approach is to occlude "unnecessary" words, ignore choice bits of punctuation and generally make a mess of common sentence structure. I don't think there's a right way to do it though, particularly!

"Me name Breggle. Not cause trouble! No hurt Breggle!"
"This is General Lath'lain Dy'nesir, of the Ebon Spur. Walking Murder surrounded by a thin veneer of civility."

Garz speech varies but a good comparision is a mix of Golum, from LotR, and a light dwarven accent. Always talks about himself in third person... often rambling, endless sentences... more frustrated he gets, the harder he is to understand.

Hmmm, what if the Test was to see if writing Test made my computer screen implode...Then it would have failed....
