Level retardation

Post by Cret » Sat Jul 24, 2010 10:56 pm

Anyone who has played Everquest 2 knows about this...

Being a low level - mid level PC its hard to find people to RP/quest/kill things with. Asking to help someone lower grants the same answer as someone who is higher. "Were not the same skill level so I/you would be useless or quickly die". This is doubly hard for PC's who don't spend time within the common MS areas with a lot of people.

What I propose is to make a command that while grouped forces the higher level characters to lose a bonus to (one or some) to hit/damage/hp/AC/etc in order to help negate the level gain bracket.

This command would be optional (by the higher level PC's). It would be a visible affect (like dark-vision) but not show up under affects. The EXP gain for the higher level PC would be the same as his normal level, but the group CR would be lowered, allowing lower level PCs more gain.

This being said. More people would be willing to go out and help Lower level PC's knowing they weren't decreasing the XP gain for the lower levels.

I have found that if you are the "higher-up", switching to defensive combat mode on top of using a random bad quality weapon with which you have not any profiency or very low (or not using weapon at all) hinders somewhat your damage output enough to the low level character having to earn his salt, if you are a wizard/priest/druid/bard you can also switch to killmode spar/nofight and buff/heal the low level character and only attack mobs when needed (you can also turn off autoassist).

But yes, a new config mode, that would cut your bab and number of attacks to that of those who had less in the group would be nice :D

For the record, I'm not sure if that's against the rules in FK. I got yelled at in Howling Peaks for doing exactly that because whoever was watching me help the lower level considered it 'power leveling.' Can we get a staff member to weigh in on this before people start doing it?

The line between assisting low-levels and wandering behind them playing buffbot/healbot can sometimes be vague, but not a line to be tested. I believe the 'power leveling' mention refers to a healbot/buffbot concern. Of course, without a log... its just a guess.
