Safe assumption?

Post by Alvirin » Sat Jul 24, 2010 1:54 pm

Random thought of the day.

In FK you can't wear the holy symbol of a coded god unless you area accepted in his church, so OOCly if you see someone wearing a particular holy symbol you can make the connection between the character and the church/god. My question is, is IC to do so? I think there are factors to take in consideration; FK's holy symbols are magical so that might be an IC guarantee that only true followers can wear holy symbol from other gods but in the other hand a character with little skill might be able to forge a more mundane symbol, so you shouldn't be able to trust that menancing "scary character/class/race" -just- because he wears a holy symbol of a god with which you feel comfortable.

I would be interested in hearing people's opinions about this for inner wisdom, thank you :D

Wearing holy symbols that do not belong to you are the perfect way to pull the woll over someone's eyes in exactly the way you've stated here. "What? Me? evil? Can't be! I'm clearly a Tyrran!" But again, like you said, they seem to register as being magical and carry IC consequences for wearing them when you're not a member of that faith. With the way things are right now, I'd say it's a perfectly IC assumption to think that someone wearing a god's symbol is, in fact, a follower of their deity. Otherwise, they'd be getting a rather harsh smiting right before your eyes.

Now, were this to change, either by powering down these super symbols or by allowing for nonmagical immitation symbols, it could lead to some interesting RP, especially for those sneaky Maskarrans and Cyricists out there. Besides that, I wouldn't mind being able to get symbols like that for some of my characters that very much respect a deity but are not devoted to Him/Her.
"Let all on whom Her light falls be welcome if they desire. Trust in Her radiance, and know that all love alive under Her light shall know her blessing. Promote acceptance and tolerance. See all other beings as equals."

Wearing the symbol of a god you do not truly revere is a right dicey proposition - keep in mind that the gods keep an eye on the realms and what their "followers" are up to, and feel completely entitled to intervene in the lives of mortals, particularly those in their church! One could certainly apply for an imitation holy symbol...one could apply for a lot of things...but this is one that I'd urge anyone considering it to think twice...and then once more! Who knows what could happen?!? (Indeed, if memory serves, some historical figures have found out...might pay to ask around!)
