A bypass of forum autoformat for ASCII art?

I've run into an issue with ASCII art, if I want to include it in applications now that we use the forums over email, I find the forum condensing the multiple spaces. Could we have an option to toggle this, maybe when in quotes? Anyone have any other ideas? I've considered replacing all spaces with '{ 00 }_' instead, but it would be nice if there was an easier way.
