Combat Carnival OOC rules?

Post by Selveem » Sat Aug 21, 2010 1:29 am

Apparently the Combat Carnival, from Mirien's intro: OOC: DO NOT camp this area. If it is discovered that this area is being camped or abused, it will be removed from the game.

Now, if it said that when I joined a long time ago, I don't recall but the fact remains it apparently does say that. However, those who have already joined are not flashed this message.

Also, it's not very descriptive as to what 'abusing the area' entails as there is already a limit as to how many tokens Mirien will accept within some given amount of time which will amount to far less coin gained than one could receive in Maos, Ascarle, Undermountain, Alaron, etc. because there are a possibility of only gaining a certain amount of coin per reset due to the few combatants available to duel per reset.

The difference, for me, is that Alaron is easy for only certain types.
Maos is heavily used by multiple people for training and coin.
Ascarle requires magical transport to get to.
And Undermountain is supposed to be restricted to groups.

If the problem is receiving coin, I think Mirien should just accept less 'per day.' If that's not the problem, I'm curious as to what the problem is.

Wasn't that preference of the builder and the admin at the time it was put in?

Worth a revisit on the OOC instructions, but I don't think any of the other places are relevant to why the message was put in originally.

Lastly, isn't it a bit less dangerous than the other places? Pretty sure it's a controlled environment where you don't have as many nasty surprises as other places, so wouldn't it be less risk/reward?

Hmm, what do you mean by less dangerous? The strongest of the combatants gets me down to 70s sometimes. The lowest can be one-rounded if I get lucky. Altogether they've gotten me down to the 50s which is far lower than Maos does.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to disarm. I thought it was against the rules, so I haven't, but I certainly can disarm in Maos and take far less.

Ascarle is a cake walk at high levels. Alaron is slightly harder if you're not a damage-dealing-specced. I had far less trouble with it on my character who dual wields than one who fights sword and board.

The Combat Carnival is in a controlled pit fighting environment, compared to the other areas that are more free range where wandering mobiles can gang up, or you might encounter hostile player characters.

I find it far more dangerous to be in a forest filled with enemies, a battleground, or an island infested with all manner of wandering critters. Shouldn't the reward of having a group and going to those places be more than pit-fighting by yourself?

Ah, I'm just speaking high-level. At high level neither places pose a threat. And I get beat up more in Combat Carnival than in either of the others. I can't speak for Alaron because I wasn't there long, but the fights I did get involved in the lowest I got was into the 70s. Still 20% higher than Combat Carnival. :)
