Resizing Magical Items

Post by Bellayana » Mon Aug 30, 2010 5:27 pm

Is it possible to resize magical items in the game? If not how is it possible for someone smaller to get some of the weapons given by quests and such?

GM Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths used to get a command called Tailor.

From what I understand, that command is now defunct. I would, however, greatly agree that this should be an option. I do, however, also believe that this should be very expensive. I'd say maybe even the full base cost of the item should be required.

As a player who has both large and small characters, it becomes extremely daunting to find suitable magic gear. Especially weapons which are almost all (if not: all!) made for medium sized creatures.

My halfling was lucky enough to be around when Dalvyn was feeling generous and resizing magical gear for characters.

Agreed, there should be a big price for it, but it should be possible. After all little people need lovin too!

Hm, you know, maybe full price only for 'upsizing' but downsizing should only cost like.. 1/2?

The way I see it, most 'large' creatures are high kismet cost and code-wise stronger (though, admittedly with a much lower range of items available to them) than small-sized creatures. So I could understand smaller creatures getting a break on decreasing the size of items.

Isn't it already possible by application?

I also was under the assumption that there was an area code you can put in your quest to have the item being resize to the one who just finished it..I know it was this way back then, but have not tried again since I began playing again.

I know this is just how I feel, but I really, really dislike applications. Especially for something as simple as a resizing. The code's already in-game; why shouldn't it be used?

I could understand an application to have a supplicated weapon or armor changed to fit your class/race, but just for resizing? That sounds rather tedious and very, very poor mis-management of our staff as it would create a pretty decent burden (not to mention backlog, for more pressing requests).

And I know there is a way to have items resize. It's done in the newbie temples with that equipment as well as one more recent quest added to the game thanks to Harroghty. But does that mean all magical items would need to be retroactively granted this flag (or whatever it is)?

I guess I'm overly rational, but I really do like to consider the work:benefit ratio. The easiest, cleanest way would be just to allow resizing done for magical items via certain mobs. Maybe a new mob, even, that would require a quest but is accessible to everyone (all races/aligns/faiths/classes).

Well I had a IMM that couldn't get my item resized.

*ducks* Just kidding.

I don't know how he did it honestly. Sorry.

Meh, not me.

I'd rather just have it put in game for everyone rather than just relying on one or two people on the entire MUD to assist the rest of the pbase.

Not saying it was perfect, but it was an option... the whole "something is better than nothing" mindset. I'd love to see a public option too. I hate restrictions on simple things, like resize.

It appears there was a recent change that allows one not to wield a weapon of one size category smaller than they currently are if it's a light weapon. I'm all for following the rules in D&D, but this is just another reason why magic items should be allowed to be resized. :)
