Bash
Bash
I'm sure this has been hotly debated in the past, and this post may even be deleted/locked, and I'll understand if it is, since I was after all too lazy to look for past posts on the subject. But anyhow, I'm miffed about the requirement of a shield to use bash. What this says to me is that I can't order my character to bonk, tackle, punch in the stomach, etc, toward the end of incapacitating the target, without using a shield? Maybe what would be more appropriate would be giving shield users ramped up damage when bashing, better chance to hit with a bash, or both. Not to mention...the change has stolen my dwarf's namesake (Orcbasher), since I dual wield, and now after I'm level...er...43, I can no longer use bash without switching to weapon/shield.
Agreed
I understand the balance issues, but I think instead that the person 'bashing' without a shield can possibly suffer damage instead.. Represented by a botched 'bash attempt' which harms you (and/or possibly leaving YOU stunned). I don't think one needs a shield to bash anyone, the shoulder guards into an open chest can knock someone back/down enough.
Re: Bash
Its was spoken about a long time ago and I can't seem to find the thread. I can give you the jist of what it was about.
Basically it was contended that the overall effect from bash realistically speaking, was not consistant with someone just putting a shoulder in.
The second reason was that it was changed as it was both considered too powerful, and to encourage more people to use and RP the use of shields. As you said, you do not like it because it changes your name sake since you dual wield. This to me is a wrong statement, for if your charecter is renowned for bashing things with a shield, then they shield always be using one and not dual wielding. Since before the change everyone dual-wielded, this small modification is encouraging.
That basically covers what it was all about (even though you can see which side I was on;) ) and I will leave the rest to judge for yourself. Just remember though. Your RP is far more important than your skills, and your skills in most cases should match your RP.
Hope this helps

You can use the skills punch and kick to do what you say above. If you wish to tackle and stun your oppoent then that should probably take away your right to attack them. Bashing them to the ground however is a common shield tactic, though I have seen the more common use is to lift the shield up towards the face, both to try and catch the chin, and to blind/dizzy the opponent (in effecive the same thing as stunning).Taerom wrote: What this says to me is that I can't order my character to bonk, tackle, punch in the stomach, etc, toward the end of incapacitating the target, without using a shield?

Bash is already extremely damaging. Giving bonuses to shields to do even more damage is extremely unbalancing.
Why can't you bash someone while dual wielding? Because dual weilding already gives you a huge advantage, and honestly dropping the shoulder into someone while holding two swords is likely to pop your shoulder out.
I'd second Stayne's point here - your RP is more important than your skills. If you're known as one who bashes orcs, then keep that up - by using a shield.

something for shield users?
I was thinking a tricky move for a warrior who knows how to fight. If a warrior uses a sword/axe what have you and a shield. They could feint in with there weapon and when the said person goes to block the weapon the warrior could rear back with his shield and instead of bashing jab it into there face gut or what ever is at hand and be more like a heavy punch on em perhaps adding a chance to knock the person back and stop the fight. To give a warrior time to regain himself if he needs a few seconds respite?

This is essentially like the bash skill. The bash skill not only will stun the opponent but it has a chance of hurting them as well. ICly you are smashing them quite hard with your shield and knocking them back. Ouch.
Syntax: bash
Bash will inflict damage and temporarily daze both yourself and your
opponent for approximately two rounds during which you cannot heal, flee
or perform other extraneous combat actions (i.e. you will be able to
dodge/parry/attack but nothing else). These same consequences are
inflicted on your opponent if it is a player character, otherwise the
skill only inflicts damage.
Note that bash has a drastically reduced chance of hitting if the basher is
not one of the primary combatants (i.e. is not tanking).

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and go well with ketchup.
Hmmm.... how 'bout spiked bucklers, that could be used as either (50% coded chance of either, perhaps) a shieldwork block, or an offhand pierce attack?
Of course, that would probably take too much coding to use for one item. Perhaps a renamed piercing weapon that appears as a spiked buckler for RP purposes, but doesn't afford shieldwork blocking.
Just throwing it out there....
