Brew/Scribe Survey
Brew/Scribe Survey
I have been involved in quite a few discussions about brew/scribe over the last month or so and I wanted to take it a bit further with a survey. Please no IC information!
1. Do you have or know an active character that can teach brew/scribe?
Active: Logs in roughly once a week.
Teach capable: Brew/scribe requires Teacher 0/Scholar 2 to teach at GM. "Teacher 1/2" feats are required to teach it at master or lower.
2. Considering these skills can only be taught by other players, (there are no active NPC trainers/quests, far as I know) do you think it is time to add new ways to learn them? If so, how? Quests? Restricted trainers? Normal trainers because you think they are normal skills, not something special like trades?
In days past, there were trainers/quests for these skills that were disabled around the time the teaching system was developed. With many of the old teacher characters getting lost in the forest, it is harder and harder for folks to learn these skills. They have become harder than trades to learn, something I find odd, and I am curious what the masses think.

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
I haven't got anybody because i am deseperate to find a brewer trainer with my priest...
But then I won't be able to teach it for I will never have any teacher feat, first I have no feat left and it is just not his rp to teach anything beside dwarven culture

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
Perhaps if there is a person out there with all scholar / teacher feats as well has glory of great value, perhaps it could be presented forward in an application. I won't lie, this is something I planned on doing here in the near future with one of my builds, but if someone can beat me to it all the better. I still plan to take this route in the future if the IMM's are open to the idea.

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
Lirith can brew and scribe but she doesn't have enough of the teaching feats to ever be able to teach them, otherwise I'd be happy to!
I think the route I'd like to see this being available through trainers in game would be with a quest. They're both powerful skills that IC would be something that would need a lot of studying to learn. Having them easily available on trainers without a quest cheapens them for me.

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
Eltsac has scribe as adept but not brew.
As I want it a teacher, he has teacher twice but scholar only once as I had not enough feat points left when that feat came in game :/

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
Just to be clear, since I have seen the misconception elsewhere, you only need Scholar feats to teach other players high level skills/spells, like brew/scribe. The only thing Teacher 1/2 does is let you teach when you are not GM. You do not need Teacher 1/2 trained to learn Scholar 1/2.
Example:
Scholar 1 lets "Bob the dwarf" teach weaponsmithing and dig at GM.
Scholar 2 lets "Bill the gnome" teach gate spell and scribe at GM.
Teacher 1 lets "Bob the dwarf" teach weaponsmithing and dig adept/expert.
Teacher 2 lets "Bill the gnome" teach gate spell and scribe at apprentice/journeymen.
(Teacher also increases how much you can teach, like up to journeymen instead of maxing at amateur.)
Hope that clears up some of the fog related to these feats... and back to topic!

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
Yeah, I'm clear on the feats. What I was thinking if the skill was wanted to be introduced into the game again via a manner, perhaps if there was someone that made the effort to be a true teacher of all things they would make a good candidate for this. My thought alone perhaps.

Gwain can brew and has teaching feats. I don't know if he's capable of teaching brew yet.

I think my character could manage to teach it. Its just a matter of finding me online with the time necessary to teach. My hours are strange.

Perhaps someone would be willing to hold an event? i.e. Brewfest 2010.

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
I think it would be nice to introduce the trades as an NPC quest. Only a few people can teach brew and scribe and it is human nature to horde things for feelings of power and control and only teach their friends IC or OOC.

Yeah, that's why communism doesn't work. But for reals, I have to agree it'd be nice to just have it as a really high level quest. Something to work for. Brew and Scribe are high level skills anyhow, aren't they?Zorinar wrote:I think it would be nice to introduce the trades as an NPC quest. Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
That seems a bit short-sighted. I have nothing against the readmission of these trades as an NPC quest, but my reasoning is that it should be done for players that are not capable of catching those that can teach it. Adding it because you feel that people only want to teach their friends ooc and ic is in my opinion not a valid reason. There is a complaints forum if you feel you are being singled out for abuse.Zorinar wrote:I think it would be nice to introduce the trades as an NPC quest. Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
Not brew's old witch quest again. I never liked quests that lock you out of skills/trades if you fail. Losing out on a new weapon or necklace because you failed a quest is one thing. Locked out of a life-long skill/trade always came off as a bit extreme to me. Nysan and my druid already hold grudges against those kinds of quests...

Re: Brew/Scribe Survey
Once I get a playing schedule set up again, I'd be more than happy to get some of you guys hooked up with brewing/scribing. I plan to be regularly logging Gesine again, but I'm not sure yet what kind of schedule I can muster. And Gesine is pretty open to who she teaches so long as you don't annoy her... so even if you annoy her chances are I can get it to someone in your character's circle that with a little time and effort can get it to you. (I know still not getting to everyone, but it is one of my top priorities of things to get going again now that I'm back). I can help out a little here.

Gesine's effort to teach the masses has always been appreciated and I am sure many are glad to hear you will start again eventually.
Gesine can't solve everything, nor should you have to, which is why I was curious enough to start this thread and see what was out there. Shouldn't have the whole playerbase riding on your shoulders alone. You'll get old and bitter like Gilain and his armorsmithing.

Heh, I know I've always appreciated it, Gesine's classes. Glad to have you back, to be honest
Miss the RP sesh's with ya more tho. Anyhoo, Brodnur knows brew, but only has 1 teacher feat, and no scholar, not sure if she'd ever be able to pass it on, since her cha is so low, but there's what she's got
