Listen vs Hide + Tell

Post by Selveem » Mon May 30, 2011 4:10 pm

Not sure why I didn't think of it before, but perhaps when someone is hidden and sends a tell (presumably masking their voice, though I'm not sure how that'd be possible with telepathy :P) your listen check would allow you to see through the facade and identify the character.

If you've met them before, their name is displayed like any other tell. If you've not met them, you may discern their race and gender. Failing that, perhaps their race and hometown (as part of their inability to hide their accent mentally).

Someone can mask their voice through telepathy if they think of the masked voice easy enough. Trying to mask your voice through thought would be a bluff or disguise skill.

I'd disagree. You can't hear your mental voice like you can with the voice from your ears. Try it. Doesn't work.

And your physical disguise has nothing to do with your voice, anyhow. Disguise definitely down-voted.

Well then there should be a bluff skill introduced if you are going to have that, there has to be a way for both people to win through the challenge. So I would be all for this if there was a way for the person trying to disguise their voice to win out.

I'm still not sure there should be. You're already getting a check bonus with hide. You shouldn't get an additional one just because you think you can bluff a voice for yourself telepathically.

If anything it would be sense motive, trying to find a hidden clue in the voice. Again there would have to be a vs and hide could be used. I am not a coder so I am not sure, but as long as it is balanced all is cool.

Sense motive is not listen. You're sensing the motive of the person. It's like when someone tries to tell you that your orange is worth a copper in the desert and attempts to convince you of it.

Listen makes more sense to me as you're attempting to _listen_ for specific clues that someone is disguising their voice.
