Request: Coder wanted for Temple build

Post by Pakur » Thu Sep 15, 2011 2:28 pm

Hey guys,

I was hoping I could find a willing coder to help me build a Temple of Talona. If I provide all the room descriptions, quest specifications, mob descriptions, item descriptions (and if I'm missing anything please let me know ) would there be someone that would be willing to attach this to some code for me? I realize it might be something done over time and I'm more than willing to *attempt* to code some of the more simple things though I'm not sure what would be considered simple. I've tried to start building once in the past but my laptop committed sepuku and I lost most of my data. So if there's anyone or any people willing to help me with this let me know and I will start working on all the descriptions ASAP. =) Thanks guys!

Pakur: Remember that you must submit an application for approval prior to working on the test port. (See help new builders for precise details.)

I would be glad to coach you through an approved project.

I'm willing to help do this if you get the approval. The most tedious part is doing the descriptions and such. The rest is simple. You can send me a PM if you like.

Cool, thank you so much guys. At the moment I'm unable to access the game, as I am at work. However, could one of you send a PM outlying the details mentioned in the helpfile for applying for a new area? :D

Eventually, I am on my phone from a conference.

....1. Format. Title the post with your account name and briefly
....summarize your request. e.g. "PakurFK - Application to build Temple of Talona"
....Include the specific PC's name in the body of the request.
....2. Content. Summarize the request simply. Some issues need
....more details than others. A rename requires less information
....than a change of alignment, for example.

Basically just write what you want to be in the temple, how big you want it to be, where you want it located, it doesn't need to be super-detailed, just give an idea of what kind of area you want to build and how it will fit into the world I'd say.

Focus on quests. We are not really interested in a temple that just offers objects for sale.

Solaghar: Please post the new builder help file also.

Yeah, my advice would be on creating an area that has good quests and can actually teach you a lot about Talona. Also remember you don't need to use all 50 rooms if you don't need to. No one needs to visit the 20 temple bedrooms or the 5 temple toilets. Stick to what you need to make it a cool, fun area with rooms people will actually use/enjoy visiting. You could also spend rooms to make an area outside the temple, for example the temple sits on a hill above a little town, that opens up a ton of quest possibilities for the temple and town to interact. Give it some really good thought.

I'm also willing to help, if you'd like to learn yourself. I don't have a builder here, but I've been doing and teaching it for years.

Pakur: Here is the relevant help file that explains the process for a new builder.
New Builders
Area Building is a very accessible endeavor that any player,
if their application is accepted, is able to attempt. There
are some limits on the methods that a new builder is allowed
to use however. Any of these requirements may be waived by
the Area Administrators. If you would prefer only to be a
to be only a "soft" or "hard" builder then please indicate
this in your application and you will be paired up with some
one willing to perform the complementary function.

Requirements:

-Limited to 50 VNUMs (50 rooms, 50 mobiles, 50 items).
*Note: New builders are no longer required to build off-line
but it is encouraged for those who wish to learn the system.
Builders beginning on-line will omit steps four through six.

Steps:

1-Submit an application requesting to build (see example).
2-Receive access to Builder Council Forums.
3-Post in "Areas Under Construction".
4-Build your area off-line using a text editor like MS Notepad.
5-Submit your product for review to the Area Admins.
6-Make Corrections.
7-Receive access to the test port.
8-Post your area to the test port and complete it.
9-Submit your area for final review by the Area Admins.
10-Once approved, your area will be posted to the game port.
11-Create a help file for your area and submit it to Area Admins.

And here is the link to the listing of current project ideas. This also includes guidance on what we are looking for right now.

I encourage you to learn how to build for yourself because you will have a better understanding of what you want the area to look like. The other Builder Council members and I are available to help you through the process.

Perfect! Thank you guys so much for the information. I'll be reviewing it throughout the day and be submitting an application here
shortly.
