Zhentil Keep Newbie Temple Weapons Master

Post by Atraos » Thu Jan 12, 2012 5:34 pm

Afternoon

i have noticed the weapons master in the slave pits doesn't train staves. I have a feeling none of the newbie weapon masters do. Is this by design? I was looking to get my new wizzie proficient in staff usage but am unable to do so.

Thanks guys

I do not see how this one mob not offering that specific weapon stops any character.

Now I'm not saying I'm against this mob receiving that skill or not, however, I do NOT think he should have every weapon in the game so I am not surprised he is lacking this one, and see no problem with that.

That said, whether the build people decide or not to add this, I'd like the point out that FK is RP-enforced/heavy. Your wizard could easily meet a character willing and able to help them travel to a mob in a nearby city that does offer the skill.

Do not forget that Zhentil Keep does come with a small kismet charge, which does not mean it will be ridiculously harder, but things may not be right at your fingertips.

I guess the real question should be: why shouldn't the "Weapons Master" (note: not swords master) train all weapons at least to the minimum amount that he trains other weapons? While FK is RP-E, the newbie zone isn't very IC to begin with (and very little RP is spurred there).

I don't see a problem with every newbie zone having access to simple things like magic missile trainers, all weapons, etc. In fact, I think that they should have the regional and low-level-only feats, as well. As it stands, even feats such as Spellcasting Prodigy (which must be taken at very low level) are quite a difficult hike for some starting area lowbies. A new player, especially, should have feats like this at their fingertips.

That said, I believe both spellcasting prodigy feat and staves training is available in the character creation area, isn't it? I realize a PC can't get back there after created, but I just don't remember.

Yes, every weapon skill (and the feat Spellcasting Prodigy) is available to a newly created PC in the character generation area. There is a good deal of redundancy in the new model to be tested in Waterdeep for newbie areas, but you all will have to wait a little while longer to pass judgment on that as I finish up the supporting quests.
