Movie Recommendations

Post by Harroghty » Tue May 24, 2011 12:34 am

I just watched a movie that I have been waiting years to see: The War Lord (1965).

A new copy of the US version DVD goes for about 140 USD on Amazon, but there is a Portuguese version also for sale (same DVD, but with optional Portuguese subtitles) for about 20 USD. I strongly recommend this movie if you can get a hold of a copy. It focuses on the internal turmoil of running an outpost on the Norman borders of England, under threat of Frisian raids.

Caveat emptor: The Middle Ages in this movie are unvarnished by politics or modern mores. It's enjoyable, but not for kids.

The Seventh Seal, probably my favourite swedish movie from the 1950's.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

Two of my favorite movies would have to be V for Vendetta and The Quiet Man.

I second V Lysha, Natalie Portman is one of my favorite actresses.

Men alone are quite capable of every wickedness.

This is somewhat relevant to Forgotten Kingdoms: The Wild Hunt. An indy film from Canada. It may make some viewers uncomfortable, but I really enjoyed it. I would not recommend this for younger viewers.

Another subculture film that looks kind of interesting. (I have not watched this one yet.)

I actually had the privilege of seeing this masterpiece. Absolutely amazing and worth the watch/purchase.
