[COMMAND]KEEPOUT

Post by Raona » Mon Jun 25, 2012 11:45 am

This command would temporarily set a room flag of ROOM_NO_MOB, so that wandering mobs do not come in and start a fight while a PC/NPC conversation is taking place. (Alternately, ROOM_SAFE could be set, but that would block the possibility of sneak attacks.) If necessary, it could be automatically revoked when the NPC dies or the inhabiting DM RETURNS out of it, or after no commands are issued in the room for some period of time, say 2 minutes.

In lieu of the peace command, which instantly disables all fighting in a room when enacted by an imm, this could prove very useful as it requires no snap action and is automatic. I'd love to see this. I think it would help avoid unpleasantness in the future.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

I'm in favor of this suggestion.
To add to it, I feel it can also double as a permanent flag in some builder models, where you have potential enemies who are willing to talk to you at first and RP things out, and if you decide you're going to attack said possible enemy, you can do so at your leisure.

Random mobs walking in and auto-initiating fight when it's supposed to be an RP event is unfortunate and irritating, even if a fight was (unbeknownst to the players) the intended outcome. It makes things feel rushed.

To explain, twice I've been in RP involved with dragons who don't initially attack but will speak with you. Mob walks in, attacks party, dragon auto-attacks said party when the intent in the first place was to talk, not fight.
For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I die, you are forgiven. If I live, I will kill you."
Such is the rule of honor.
