Aasimar native ability
Aasimar native ability
For a long time I had the ability to invoke a light spell on my Aasimar but didnt not cast it. Having cast it last a while ago I have not seen it reappear in my ability list:
It showed the light 1/1 before and now:
"You do not have any magical abilities."
My spellbook is:
------------------------------[Spellbook]--------------------------------
witch light A brightstone
Now, I am not sure if this was a one time use ability or if it should come back.

Re: Aasimar native ability
My two test aasimars do not show this as an ability, and are quite old. I don't see any daily ability listed in the aasimar helpfile. My guess is that if the race ever did have it, it was removed when the playable races got a revamp and ECL (effective character level) was implemented. Your instance of it may have lingered until you used the ability? I can't say for certain, sorry.
Re: Aasimar native ability
Aasimar should have eyes of light as an ability.
Edited: No they shouldn't! Eyes of light is a feat.

According to d20srd.org:
Daylight (Sp) An aasimar can use daylight once per day as a 1st-level caster or a caster of his class levels, whichever is higher.
My understanding is that this was represented by the daily 'light' ability. The feat 'eyes of light' lets you turn the daily use of daylight into a use of searing light instead, at will. I don't have an aasimar though, so I have no personal experience with it.

Re: Aasimar native ability
Any long-time aasimar players able to provide the history on this? Was it there at one time, and should it come back?Nylo wrote:According to d20srd.org:

Re: Aasimar native ability
Though I never had one, I've seen enough discussion and examples in game of the abilities. Don't know where they went, don't know if they were shifted into something else. But if they don't exist anymore they should be made to exist in some fashion.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Re: Aasimar native ability
This did exist at some point. Florian had it upon creation. I think he gained witch light as a spell and lost it as an ability, as I certainly don't remember training it.
Jamais arriere.

Re: Aasimar native ability
Hmm. If that's the case, they had a line something like
DailyAbility 'light' 1~
removed from their race file. That may have been a balance decision, but...golly, looking these exotic races over, it looks like they have an ECL of 2?!? Woe be the humans. Another reason, to my mind, that humans should learn faster than other races, to even things up a bit. That they can't see for doo doo is among their biggest liabilities.

Re: Aasimar native ability
Well, humans in tabletop get +1 skill point per level. It'd stand to reason to me that they'd learn faster. Is there any way to code it so their 'effective' intelligence is 2 higher for the purposes of gaining spells? (Sort of like if you have the feat 'spellcasting prodigy, your effective int/wis is 2 higher for the purpose of spell slots). This would reflect the same thing as in SRD. (2 int = 1 skill point per level)Raona wrote:Hmm. If that's the case, they had a line something like

Re: Aasimar native ability
I agree that it would be good to see humans gain skills/spells/etc faster being as that's a portion of the balancing in canon. As Tarven said, +1 skill point per level and I believe an addition +4 on creation?(not at a book so can't verify that)

Yep, that's exactly it. Which equates, again, to the same as +2 int. =PAlitar wrote:I agree that it would be good to see humans gain skills/spells/etc faster being as that's a portion of the balancing in canon.
