"Razing" an area

Post by Mele » Mon Nov 08, 2010 12:49 am

Personally, I enjoy when a well plotted group of evil or good characters make a plan to take on a small village or establishment and go together and do it. I think it's logical a small group of well trained adventuring evil/good could devastate a village or town.

I enjoy when one character takes out a mob or two of opposing values in an any area then swiftly runs/hides/or even gets caught for the rp.

Now, what I don't like is seeing one, or two people who decide to do the same. Worse, is seeing one or two lowbie characters doing this.

Before you enter an area and do this ask yourself just one, very very important question.

Do you think if all of the mobiles in said area were all in the same room your character could take them all on?

If the answer is no(Which I'm hard pressed to believe anyone can really say yes. If you think you can say yes, let's remember a moment the mobiles that do not exist per game code. Making potentially 100's of mobs in an area that has hundreds of people would be a horribly painful amount of spam), it's probably poor form to run from room to room just killing individuals. Eventually, in a small establishment all the townspeople WOULD catch up to you.

So you're rolling solo? Play the part of a rogue assassin, run in and slam a guy or two out then hide your tail! Don't overestimate yourself simply because the mobiles in the area do not move.
Beshaba potatoes.

I agree and honestly I think this logic can be applied to most areas, though I think it's fair that it's overlooked in quest/leveling areas; otherwise people couldn't obtain coin or levels.

Either way, it's always a good idea to CYA. If you do something like this and you're caught I think it's fair to say you're about to take it somewhere uncomfortable.

Put another way...this is a roleplay-intensive MUD, not a text version of <<insert graphic MMORPG here, e.g. WoW>>. You are meant to play it differently - not just "clear out" each area you come to, collecting the coin and equipment as you go, although as Selveem points out there are some areas that are specifically designed to have you do exactly that (in a somewhat structured way).

Two of FK's vague but important rules are:
1) "Just because the code lets you, doesn't mean you should."
2) "IC actions have IC consequences"

The code may let you deliver a massive wedgie to the gnome chieftain, over and over again, and not react to your deeds because the coder of that area didn't consider that possibility. However, ICly it is clear the gnome chieftain wouldn't just put up with that, but would seek to prank you back double. If an Imm sees you yanking on the little guy's undies, be prepared for the gnome to suddenly have a village of smoke-bomb and butt-paddle wielding citizens attend your wedding, that's all I can say.
