Arranging RP oocly?

Hello again!

I know I bounce on and off of this game... frequently... and I'd probably know stuff like this if I wasn't a Sagittarius. But since I'm a multi-year nublet, I feel compelled to seek out help with stuff like this when it pops up.

To what extent is it permissible to arrange with another player for your characters to 'happen' to be in the same place at the same time? Obviously it would have to be something that makes sense for both characters to show up at but...

Anyway, I've posed my question, I'll just shush now before I go off on a random rant... like that one. /snicker

I can't find it at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing this recommended in a helpfile, especially for (say) arranging a "coincidental" meeting with a faith leader for a deity your character wishes to serve.

I don't see a problem with this, as long as, like you say, it's ICly probable.

Hi Lystianna, the official answer is that this is not only okay, but totally encouraged. Anything where players are seeking to role-play more and better is a good thing.

I'd add the caution, however, that initial contact should be IC. That is, we are delighted if you work OOCly with another player to have your two PCs meet again to carry on some ongoing RP, or agree to something ICly (like adventuring together) and then work out logistics (being online at the same time with enough time to spare) OOCly. However, you should not chat your OOC pal and say "Hey, bring your thief to Battlerise, my wizard fell in a pit." or "You and I should totally form an adventuring group. I have a way buff fighter. Do you have a cleric?"

If your PC's have already met, they would be arranging any more meetings IC.

Arranging a meeting OOC would be for a first meeting - IE: I noticed you're a xyz, my character is xyz, I think they might interact enjoyably IC can we arrange to stumble upon each other? Or: I have a lowbie Druid of Chauntea, I noticed you are a ranger would you like to arrange a stumble upon for roleplay and exp team up?

Hmm... you could probably use the magical post to send messages ICly after the first OOC arranged meeting. The MP doesn't get much love these days.

It's easy to 'check' too. Your communication amulet will flash different colors if there is/isn't any mail for you. It's a red flash if there isn't. I don't know what the other color is... I never get any mail. :'(

Plus, this is now integrated into the "who" command, so whenever you type "who" it also notifies you if you have any mail.
