Upon happening across a temple strewn with MOBs' items in the dozens, I'd like to bring back up something:
Please don't raid temples and kill their guards, shopkeepers, trainers, high priests, etc. One (or two or three) of you would not realistically be able to destroy a temple filled with hundreds, if not thousands, of guards and followers of that deity.
Just because the code allows you to do something does not mean you should.
Thank you for your time. These are my opinions and none others, but I believe them to be good guidelines for earnest RP.

Aldren is correct in this - and I will add that if you make a habit of this, it will eventually catch up with you, and the consequences will be dire (and most likely IC: prepare yourself for having an entire faith hell-bent on your destruction, and hunting you to the ends of Faerun!).

Re: Raiding Temples
At one point, I had a character who had been killed by a faith enemy and wanted revenge. But, I couldn't locate the other character (probably just as well for me). So I considered organizing a raid on their temple and mailing him a few pieces of faith specific gear to indicate my displeasure. I eventually abandoned the idea for IC reasons.
Some faiths (I think) give favor for killing faith enemies. And you can lose favor by getting killed by a faith enemy. I thought that as long as my actions were IC, raiding a temple would be a perfectly acceptable - even laudable - course of action. Are these favor awards supposed to be limited to PvP actions?
Although it's unlikely that a few individuals could sack a temple of thousands, I do not think this is a realistic scenario. In many cases, 'temples' are actually small shrines with a few dedicated worshipers. And historically, temples did get raided from time to time.
Naturally, I will follow any policy put in place. (My characters are unlikely to engage in the raiding of temples under any circumstances). But I do think raiding temples - with proper IC motivation - should be permitted. Just like PvP.

Re: Raiding Temples
There is a difference between picking off a wandering priest mob or odd couple guards and mailing their heads back to your enemies, and repeatedly throwing yourself against a temple fortress.
"Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!" "'Tis as impossible that he's undrowned as he that sleeps here swims." "I'm begging you please wake me up, In all my dreams I...."

Re: Raiding Temples
If you decide that this really what your PC would do in a given situation, so be it. In many cases the game will not be able to respond realistically with just the code in place. The staff will - we are supposed to help fill in those gaps where the code alone does not offer a realistic reaction! So, simply put - you can make this an IC choice, but if you do, expect a realistic reaction from the faith to eventually follow, at least where it makes IC sense that the faith would come to learn of the event and who perpetrated it.
Re: Raiding Temples
My experience with temple raiding back in the days of yore with an elf char was: the Deity of the temple Slayed me, then gave me over to Lolth, who resurrected me in Menzoberranzan!
That was before the Underdark was accessible to surfacers and I had a fun time there until I eventually died again and was resurrected in the Ardeep.
Fun times!
