Auction Board
Auction Board
Could we put a note board where the auction house is under construction? It has seemed lately as though it might find use, as people are using the noteboard for item-related requests and offers.
Edit to clarify:
This would be its own pool of notes, not linked anywhere unless in future demand or use makes it fitting to put others in other cities.

Re: Auction Board
Think it would be worth putting a linked auction board in zhentilkeep and skullport for people who might want to trade more liberally and an option for the poster to remain anonymous if that isn't already a thing.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!
Re: Auction Board
Once again I wish I had a priest of Waukeen. Or really any mercantile-type character. A player could easily do this.
Want to sell something? A blind auction, submit your bid to the player who will hold the item until the auction is completed (say in a real life week). At that point the highest bid takes the item, the priest of Waukeen takes a 10% house cut, and the seller gets the money.
All exchanges are private. The buyer and seller never know each other unless they happen to meet on the street and see the item in use.
I am really against automating all of these things that should be player-driven. This could be done completely IC and it would be a fun little mini-quest. The more we automate, the less we interact.

Re: Auction Board
I already have a character who has done this in the past and will likely do again when the opportunity presents itself.
I thought though the noteboard would just help communication rather than actually do anythign with money or PC driven initiative to trade.

Re: Auction Board
There were a few characters back in the day who focused almost solely on this, and did a wonderful job with it. Noteboard would be great for organizing these kinds of things, I think. I agree it should remain player-driven, but there's nothing wrong with having a noteboard to help organize the meetings.
Re: Auction Board
Oh, my mistake. Yes, a noteboard would be a GREAT way to organize it.
I thought you meant some stationary NPC that would run the whole thing like the auction house in World of Warcraft or something. I'd love to see some players pick this back up. I'd certainly stop by that noteboard every day or two to check and see what was being auctioned.

Re: Auction Board
I don't have a dog in this fight one way or the other, but for the sake of being a devil's advocate: why add a new board? Why is the one already linked between surface cities not sufficient for this purpose?

Re: Auction Board
I assume just for the sake of clarity. A board generally used for news becomes less easily navigated when cluttered with trade offers. A dedicated board for transactions could see higher use, as opposed to one that contains all sorts of different information.
Re: Auction Board
Though I'm not against this, I would point out the noteboard is - and has been for a good amount of time now - regularly pruned, so that is not entirely an issue.
Beshaba potatoes.
Re: Auction Board
I'd be for removing the auction house room entirely. Its not doing anything and has little value to me. Maybe replace it with a small shrine to Waukeen or a shop.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.
