Researching Priest Spells

Post by Glim » Sat Apr 17, 2004 4:26 pm

I was wondering, would there be any way a lvl 50 priest could research spells? Probably by meditating and communing with their god? Maybe some other way?
Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

I wouldn't think so personally. Clerics don't create spells/prayers, they are granted them by their god.

Wizards however have the freedom of writing the symbols and working out to correct gestures to shape the Weave into the desired effect.

There's no reason why other spellcasters could not research new spells too. Of course, if you consider priests, you won't have them "write symbols and work out the correct gestures" but, as Glim wrote, you will have them pray and meditate for an answer to a particular problem (that is a spell to do something in particular).

Same could be said with bards writing new m agical songs or paladins spending nights in meditation and prayer, or rangers attuning to nature in order to receive new powers.

"Technically", the books do not limit new spell researching to wizards. The only limit is the number of spells a sorcerer/bard can know of a given level, but all spellcasting classes can research new spells. In different ways, of course.

Note that this is a "general" answer; the offer is limited to wizards in the mud.
