Block, Parry, Riposte Work Through Gag

A change I'd like to see to the combat text is that block and parry show up even when combat text is brief. Otherwise I have no way of knowing if they went off or not.

Can't speak to riposte but as is mentioned in the help file. The game will only echo it when it makes a critical difference. If you keep combat gag off you will see it will echo perhaps, once every 20 or 15 rounds depending how good you are. Perhaps a lot more often for the higher skill level characters.

You should notice a slight increase in not getting hit when you train them vs not having them trained however. This is them going of every round as they should, just not causing a critical difference.

I don't really see the need to cause more ungaged spam but speaking from a blind player's perspective. I'll probably just gag it again client side if this goes through.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

This is actually something I'd like to see, too. I think I just like being able to see how often they're working without having to deal with all the extra stuff that comes with config -gag. But I know not everyone feels similarly.

Also, as a note, I'd add dodge to that proposed list and subtract riposte, since as far as I know the latter isn't functioning at all, anyway.

If this won't be changed, though, could always keep the game's gag turned off and just write clientside gags for all the miss echos and whatnet.

The problem with the client-side gag (at least on my client) is that it prints an empty line when it gags something. So I still get "blank spam". :)

This is a minor thing, but I feel like it would let you know that something was going on with those invisible skills other than the occasional seemingly random skill increase.

What client are you using? I used to use mushclient when I had vision, but even that has a function to not display blank lines.

I second this but also, uh.

Riposte doesn't work? Mobs use it on my characters all the time if they have the requisite piercing weapon to do so. Is it disabled player-side?

You can learn it via train, but it doesn't do anything.

Mobs use it also with crushing and slashing weapons.

From what I read from a couple of threads, it was supposed to be fixed at least for mobs back in 2012 but not sure what happened between then and now since as it's been said, mobs can still use all weapons with it, even natural attacks.
