Seems like a nice idea, but could they be items? Perhaps Gondar made? I could see Rangers/druids being able to use these alot more than wizards, unless they have bird call whistles or something.

The spell would have to be coded for the items to use their effect in a way that would effect the few surrounding rooms, I would think. Why not a spell and an item?

What about the higher your spell level the brighter the flare? (The more rooms it can be seen away)

Also, how about a check to ignite skill if using an item, and with either item or spell, failure giving a chance to have ' A flare blows up in your face!' causing an effect (fire breath? burning hands?) in the same manner as brewing causes acid damage sometimes.

I think this would be cool if it showed the area you were in to everyone else. Sorta like the knowledge geography skills, it would be kinda the same.

Places like, Waterdeep, High Forest, Forest of Wyrms, Zhentil Keep, ect.
Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

Hmmm....

I think I can translate this to an object... one that would be quite cool in the area I'm working on :) Not a spell, but, still a cool idea.
