FR Atlas Petition Started

Post by Wenin » Tue Jun 27, 2006 6:03 pm

I'm sure some have heard of the Forgotten Realms Interactive Atlas. It was a software product developed by ProFantasy. They replicated all of the maps from various FR source books. If you had their mapping software you could then link your own custom made maps into the Atlas as well. It was a great product that TSR partnered up with ProFantasy. When WoTC bought the rights to the FR label, they didn't want to get into the software business. In spite of this, there has always been a demand for this software. Now with 3.5 being far more common, the demand has tappered off. However WoTC has been releasing PDF versions of old 2.0 source books.

In order to organize a movement to have WoTC hear the fans collective desire to have the product released, or even updated and released ProFantasy has started an online petition.

I'm sure many play beyond Forgotten Kingdoms and would like to see this released again.

Though I would support a cause for fantasy geography, I don't know if the forum for a mud is the right place to poast this information. Because the forum is built to deal with game related issues and topics. This might seem to fit, but it might just be detailing more to do with WOTC and Fr.

Of all the forums this was the best I saw this fitting within.

I agree that it doesn't deal directly with the MUD. I assume that many players came to the mud because of their love for the Forgotten Realms, or have since fallen in love with the setting. With this close relationship between the RPG Setting and the MUD's setting I thought it would be of interest to many of the players.

I won't complain or feel slighted if the thread is deleted because of it's indirect association to the mud.

Sheesh its just one simple thread about a topic dealing with the FR universe which last i checked we are all deeply involved with. And it is under GENERAL discussions not one of the more specialiced forums.

This thread is still closely related to the world the mud is based on, so I think it is fine. I would think it is as related to FK as my thread linking towards D&D's demon page.

Yet... I would prefer it if the over-simplified political (anti-)propaganda could be left out of the forum. It could quickly degenerate into very nasty things. :)

Of course I'll sign the petition! I have heard of this atlas before, and I wanted it so badly. I wonder if this petition will actually help, though?

My apologies for over stressing certain rules. I do support the desire for a electronic atlas, as I stated in my first post.
