Elven Language

Post by Urival » Wed Aug 27, 2003 8:09 am

I seem to remember something on the old page that had references to web sites regarding the differnt phrases of elvish and what they meen. Some of the books (Evermeet, and Elfshadow) Ive read have givin me a little knowledge of the elven words and phrases, though a nice dictionary would be great. Anyone know where this might be found?

Elven Language Resource Sites

Here are my two favourite sites:

http://myth-drannor.net/DlabraddathNet/ ... 20page.htm - Lots of good information there and very much Forgotten Realms oriented.

http://www.grey-company.org/Circle/language/intro.htm - Not a Forgotten Realms site per se, but a lot of the elvish words/phrases found in the novels can be found on this site. This is more a collaboration of Tolkein language studies (Tolkein in credited with inventing no less that three separate and unique languages and writing systems), snippets of elvish from the Forgotten Realms campaign and player innovations.

One thing to note is that on the above site, Moon elves are labeled Tel`Mithrin which literally translates to Grey elves. In Faerun, this can be construed as a deadly insult (give me a few days to find the quote) as the elvish words for "grey" and "dross" are very similar and many Gold elves consider the Moon elves to be the waste product of when Corellon created the Gold elves.
