This tradeskill ,exclusive to bards, allows you to build different musical instruments.

I think that would be a good part of woodworking, to add instruments into the creation list of stuff you can make, personally. :D

why would this exclusive to bards? There are several characters that rp being musically inclined, but just did not take after it as a career.

For the same OOC reason that if you want some skins you ask them to a ranger, if anyone wants a musical instrument they have to have some interaction with a bard.
Alternatively all the trades could be open to all the races/classes and it would be fine.

I second the suggestion that instrument-making be part of woodworking (and lapidary, for metal instruments!). I think these trades would be well-suited to the task and it'd be neat to open them up to some more variety.

What would this produce?
I'm not sure I see how this trade would really be useful, that is, more useful than a shop furnished with lots of different instruments. I mean, instruments do wear out.
Or did you mean making magical instruments that can cast spells?

Ooh. I had regular instruments in mind-- but the opportunity for a magically-inclined individual, or a craftsman with the help of said magically-inclined individual, to create magical instruments would, I think, be an interesting addition-- though it would have to be well-controlled, I'm sure, as it would be about on par power-wise with brewing and scribing.

The same thing that lapidary and woodworking and weaponsmithing produces?
Things you can buy from shops but are made by someone. That's IC value.
(I was going to mention lapidary for metal instruments, too! :D)

Hmm, there's a thought.
Imbuned instruments that can cast certain spells. Could hardcode them like wands to reduce problems in that department. Instrument users are used to smote/emote usage anyways for when they preform...or should be. Set up a few charges per instrument before it is broken, limit them to spells a bard can use, and of course number of charges and possible spells to imbuned increase with skill and bingo...shiny new trade.
A bit of work, but an interesting idea.

Similar to how instruments are portrayed in D&D, if they are of good quality they could increase the 'sing' skill proportionately to the quality of the instrument.

I could see this if a bard made them he could perhaps make an instrument sorta like a wand. Ie a horn of healing/drums of blasting and such. but anyone could make instruments especially instrument makers who are just average joe's!

Actually in D&D magical instruments are created by wizards and require the craft magical wonder since they behave in a way very different from wands or staves.
What I wouldn't like to see is something that bards aren't able to do (although it could benefit them), bards are able to use wands but they aren't able to create them, so if they really need something that works like a wand they must ask a wizard a wand.
What I'm asking is about basic musical instruments that give some bonuses related to bardic music.

OOS: Did you know that Angus Young made his first guitar out of a banjo?
And I second the notion... if the notion is making the skill of instumental-creatingship possible. I don't know if magical instruments would work ( Star Power perhaps
) but I think the ability to create instruments would be a nice addition to the game.
