Sorcerers & Thay

Post by Mingus » Fri Sep 12, 2003 12:48 am

Now with memorization in place for wizards, are sorcerer soon to follow or they are not even on the horizon? Are they gonna start out as wizards like all other magic-users or are they gonna be separate? I want to know if I make a wizard now, will I be able to make him into a sorcerer later.

When Thay gets put in and you've RPsed playing a red wizard. Will it still cost glory to get transfereed there as a hometown. I'm asking as to whether to make a wizard now or to wait till Thay is in.

Does making of a sorcerer or a Thayian wizard require an application?

The requirement race for both would be human? Or are there elven/half-elven sorcerers from Thay?(I doubt it) Or at least elven sorcerers but Thay is a human society.

Mystra wrote:Yes they are planned. Never ask when on this board though, as things will happen WHEN we have the time to do it. No we will not change existing wizards to sorcerers. How they start out has not yet been determined. We are not going to consider how to implement them until the new char creation system comes in.
Yes I fully understand, in no part do I mean these to be demands or even I-need-to-know. Just curiosity. Saying that, my understanding on sorcerers be that an fk sorcerer would be a cross between a priest and a mage. Where you take the No spellbook and No memorization requirements of the priest and the mages list of spells and add a limit to the amount of spells you can train. So, where as a mage can have 100 spells trained the sorcerer is limited to 20. Would this be about right?

I know how the red wizards are seen by the good, but how are they seen and treated by the Zhents or those of Westgate or those of Mulemaster or even those as far as Calimshan or Luskan? Are they despised like the Zhents and seen as interlopers trying to influence their way by trade and treachery. Or as allies for the moment.

Red Wizards, are just that. Sorcerers are treated as inferior to actual wizards and regular wizards are treated inferior to Red Wizards.

Also, If Red Wizards have Trade Enclaves all around Faerun then any Red Wizard character doesn't necessarily have to originate in Thay, they could be in a Waterdeep Thayan Enclave, etc.

Lords of Darkness goes into detail about how the Red Wizards are organized and how Thayan Enclaves work.

Here's a real good question, Do Thayans use magic to make themselves bald for the rest of their lives or do you think they shave their heads with enchanted shaving cream?

I believe the bald headedness is actually a sign of rank. Before being recognised as a master and recieving their red wizards hat, they must summona minor demon from the plane of shiny domes to live in it. The demon, a sign of their mastery, feeds on hair. I hear that a group holding another wizard down and shoving their hats up his robe is considered quite a funny practical joke.
