Cast
Syntax: CAST <'spell name'> ['targets/arguments'] [target/argument]
Before you can cast a spell, you have to learn it. The better you know a spell, the more effectively you can cast it. The spell must be MEMORIZED in a SPELL SLOT, and casting it removes it from your available spell slots until you rest or MEDITATE.
In some cases, specifying a single target is optional. Many spells which need targets will use an appropriate default target, especially during combat. If the spell requires a single target, and the target you wish involves using multiple keywords, simply add the additional keywords with a space, no surrounding characters are needed:
CAST fireball ugly human
If the spell name is more than one word, then you must quote the spell name:
Example: CAST 'cure critical' male dwarf
If the spell requires multiple targets or arguments, *all except the last* must be enclosed in quotes, but the last one need not be, and *should* not be for spells that search for things or people, like Magic Mirror and Locate Object:
Example: CAST 'change sex' 'elf leader' female
Quoting is optional for single-word spells. You can abbreviate the spell name, if the abbreviation is not ambiguous. (Thus, CAST fireba would work fine, but CAST cure would not be specific enough to narrow down which cure spell [cure light, cure serious, cure critical, etc.] you wish to cast.)
When you cast an offensive spell, the victim usually gets a saving throw. The effect of the spell is reduced or eliminated if the victim makes the saving throw successfully.
You can stop casting a spell by typing STOP.
* The equipment you wear can affect your success in casting. If you wear cloth you will not fail at all, but if you wear leather you will get some failure and when you wear metal armour you will get a high failure rate at casting. The more non cloth armour you wear in different locations the greater the failure rate for casting.
* PCs of the priest class (including Clerics and Druids) who attempt to cast a heal or harm spell will cast it spontaneously if they do not have an instance of it memorized. * Spellcasters can cast spells or prayers while holding a shield. (Example: a cleric can use their prayers while wielding a mace in one hand and a buckler in the other.)
