Minor Temples area - player contributions wanted

Post by Kelemvor » Fri Dec 21, 2007 1:03 pm

Those of you who were playing this time last year may recall a call for players to help in building a set of minor towns and cities for the game.
This led to my building the minor settlements area.

Now that that settlements area is under review I plan on moving onto a new area which will be made up of shrines and small temples.

At this stage, I just need ideas for those uncoded deities which you feel are missing from the game.

PLEASE NOTE : These deities will not be coded, will not have immortal characters. This is just for the purposes of adding a few rooms, mobs and items to the game with the flavour of the deity.

Some examples of uncoded deities which have shrines or temples in game currently are: Deneir; Gwaeron Windstrom; Milil; Silvanus and Skerrit

For now, please restrict your ideas to the deities of the Faerunian human pantheon or the pantheons of the 'classical' races - elves, dwarves, drow, orcs gnomes and halflings.

Feel free to note them in this thread and to discuss the submissions made by others. I have a few that will definitely be included or excluded, but everything else is up for grabs.

Amaunataur, Jergal, Shaundakul, and the Elemental gods. ( Would be good ideas )

Gods I would recommend... Red Knight, Azuth, and ( if the city is a port, or is next to any major lakes/rivers ) Valkur.

Over the centuries, many theories have been put forward by later religious scholars as to what ultimate fate Amaunator met. Some insist that he died, but others (notably the sunmasters of the Brotherhood of the Glorious Sun) argue that he was reborn as Lathander. Still others believe he survives as the vengeful Bedine deity known as At’ar the Merciless and yet others assert that he turned his back on Faerûn and entered the pantheon of the lands of Kara-Tur or simply moved on to other planets (such as Oerth). The truth is that with the loss of nearly all his followers in Netheril after its fall, Amaunator began the long, arduous, and painful process of dying of neglect. After about a millennium, he did not have enough power left to maintain his power base in the outer planes and was ruthlessly exiled to the Astral Plane. His corpse now drifts with the endless astral tides, awaiting a day when some ambitious spirit may help him regain his once-proud heritage.
A shrine or temple to Amaunator would make a good setting for a dungeon crawl or exploration, but probably won't be included in this effort.

It would be nice to see old Temples to dead gods, to see something of the history which is supposed to have existed in the realms. Ruins out there in the open wilderness are neat to find and give you a cool place to hang out for RP purposes. Myrkul, Bhaal, Mystryl, Amaunator, Karsus, Moander, Tyche, Ibrandul.

Always remember, if you have a good idea or want to see something in game that isn't... Dalvyn waits with open arms for new builders. :)

I aim to cover between 10 and 20 uncoded deities with this area, simple 1 room shrines and a few 2-3 room temples. As you can see from the above list of 'living' deities, there are already quite a large number to choose from, so adding dead deities would detract from that somewhat.

Shrines/temples I would like to see : Siamorphe (Waterdeep), Silvanus, Kossuth, Istishia, Grumbar, Akadi, Azuth

I as well would like to see temples to the dead gods... I would really like to see shrines to the elemental gods as gesani are now in game (see above)

I'm definitely going to suggest one for Lurue. :) Nobanion might be a good one as well, and Lliira. Maybe a couple of halfling deities, too, for areas like Hillvale, and a couple of non-Garl non-Gond gnomish ones for Golden Oaks. :)

Would also love to see Azuth in the game. Would call for a different view of 'spellcasting' then those stuck up mystrans have.

Temples to Hoar, Gargauth and Jergal would be interesting. A good dead god would be Borem of the Lake of Boiling Mud, god of fear and hatred. Ubtao the god of Mazes and Chult. Silvanus, and Tiamat.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

If there isn't one already, one for Lliira would be good, Lliira having played a role in the return of Waukeen.

You can make Gargauth's just like Siamorphe's...but put a goatee on it. I can also write up the description if you'd like. I like writing descriptions.
Listen up! People pay good money to see this movie! When they go out to a theater they want cold sodas, hot popcorn, and no monsters in the projection booth! Do I have to come up there myself? Do you think the Gremsters can stand up to the Hulkster?

Ulutiu, Valkur, Uthgar (he probably wouldn't get shrines in most places, but some Northern villages would be nice). Valkur would fit in very nice in the fishing village NW of Waterdeep. Gotta love Valkur, and the good ice-god that that devil Auril is draining of power, Ulutiu.

No descriptions yet, no offers to help build.. just an idea of what uncoded deities folk would like to see in the game or who have followers currently

Strongly suggest shrines to the 4 elemental gods that did not require a trip to Undermountain to visit. The statues in the Oghma's new gallery in Waterdeep are impressive. More content would be nice.

Also wouldn't mind seeing an Auril holy place, perhaps a run-down shrine to Jergal, Valkur honored in Waterdeep or some other coast-side settlement, and that old bag of bones: Velsharoon mentioned somewhere.

I'd like to see small shrines for the gnome and halfling deities (e.g., a Baervan shrine in Golden Oaks for the forest gnomes).

I also like the ideas of temples for the four elemental deities and Lliira.
