The Flame blade spell is spawning a cutlas with 1d6 damage and a unique description.
However, according to canon the flame blade spell is supposed to create the following:
-A 1d8 weapon that does pure flame damage. (Not 1d6.)
-The weapon does not take STR bonus into account for damage, but it does for To Hit bonus.
- Damage bonus is based on level ( or skill level for FK?) that ranges from +1 to +10.
Basically it is +1 / 2 levels with a max of +10. (you could use Dam Bonus = (skill level / 25) * 10. with a round up or down)

There really is not a correct way for the spell to be. While we aspire to 3.5 rules, we do not slavishly adhere to them. This would be best developed in discussion and winnowed down to a succinct recommendation for Mask to act upon. Thanks.

I have a solution then.
Lets have the flame blade spell add flaming damage for a duration to an already existing weapon. The extra flaming damage could be standardized (1d8?), and the duration could be dependant upon the skill level of the spell. Being a level 5 spell, we could consider using 1.5x the duration of the 'magic weapon' spell as a baseline for duration.
That would somewhat mirror the original intent of the spell.
