Cormyr

Cormyr is a monarchy that has been ruled by an unbroken line of sovereigns
from the family Obarskyr ever since Faerlthann, a settler in this once-Elven
kingdom, received the land from an agreement with the Elves. Seventy-two
Obarskyr monarchs have ruled since that time, and at present King Azoun IV
rules on the Purple Dragon throne in the capital, Suzail. The country is a
lawful monarchy very similar in character to medieval France.

Cormyr, sometimes called the Forest Country, lies between the desert kingdom
of Anauroch on the north and the Lake of Dragons (the Dragonmere) to the
south. It is a relatively secure nation, situated between the Thunder Peak
Mountains to the east and Storm Horn Mountains to the west. Thunder Gap,
Tilver's Gap, and the Bridge of Fallen Men are the major points of entry into
the kingdom.

Cormyr is still heavily wooded, but there are vast tracts of farmlands now.
The law is maintained by the Purple Dragons, the army of Cormyr, and by the
War Wizards, an old, mysterious group of wizards led by Vangerdahast, the
Royal Magician, that keep the peace and advise the rulers of Cormyr.

Adventurers are tolerated in Cormyr, but the citizens are wary of any who
would seek out a life on the road, away from their country, family, and
homestead.
