Scroll

SCROLLS are magic put on paper. Only those who cast spells (arcane or
divine) and rogues trained in the use magic device skill can 'recite' them.
Wizards and clerics are able to learn from scrolls using the
'write' command.
Clerics, druids and wizards trained in the
scribe skill are able to 'scribe'
scrolls.

POTIONS are bottled magic. Any class is able to
'quaff' a potion. Clerics,
wizards, and druids trained in the
brew skill are able to 'brew' new potions.

PILLS are similar to potions, though in pill form. Any class is able to
'eat' them.

WANDS are small sticks with magic stored in them. Wizards can
'zap' wands,
as can rogues trained in the
use magic device skill.

A STAFF affects all those grouped with the person that
'brandish'es them.
Only wizards and priests can use a staff.

* To attempt to determine what is on a scroll, 'examine' it. If you are
successful, the spell name(s) will be added to the scroll's title. The
read
magic
spell will enhance your ability to succeed at this, as will the skills
use magic device and spellcraft. The latter provide only an increasingly
slim chance of success, however, and but one chance per item.
